KNX home automation in Seville, Spain: installation and programming of wired systems
We install KNX home automation in Seville, Spain for new-build homes, full renovations and buildings: a wired bus that links push buttons, sensors and actuators from different manufacturers, programmed with ETS, controlling lights, blinds, climate and consumption without relying on wifi.

KNX home automation in Seville, Spain: what it is and when it makes sense
KNX is the most widespread wired home automation standard in Europe. Instead of each switch being wired to its own light, every element in the house (push buttons, presence sensors, thermostats, blind and lighting actuators) connects to the same bus cable. Commands travel along that bus and the installation is programmed with ETS software: changing what a push button does is a matter of reprogramming, not rewiring.
KNX home automation in Seville, Spain makes most sense in three cases:
- New builds, when the bus is planned from the design stage.
- Full renovations, with walls and ceilings opened up.
- Large homes, offices and buildings, where a reliable and expandable system pays off.
For a lived-in flat where you do not want building work, the alternative is a wireless system, which we also install through our smart home installation service.
What you can control with KNX
- Lighting room by room, with dimming and scenes: cinema, dinner, night, leaving home.
- Blinds and awnings, with schedules, sun and wind sensors, and automatic lowering on summer afternoons, very welcome in Seville.
- Climate: room-by-room control of the air conditioning, aerothermal heat pump (aerotermia) or underfloor heating, with integrated thermostats.
- Consumption: metering by circuit and load shedding.
- Safety and alerts: flood sensors, presence simulation and alerts to your phone.
Regulations and the standard
Automation installations in Spain follow ITC-BT-51 of the Low Voltage Electrotechnical Regulation (REBT). KNX is an open standard, set out in UNE-EN 50090 and ISO/IEC 14543, with many manufacturers whose devices are compatible. That means you can mix brands and you do not depend on a single installer, which matters if you split your time between Spain and another country.
New builds in Seville: the best moment
New homes are handed over with high electrification (electrificación elevada), which includes a circuit planned for home automation, but rarely with the system installed. In the detached houses of Entrenúcleos, the villas of Palmas Altas, the houses of Altos del Aire in Tomares or the townhouses of Bormujos, the ideal moment for KNX is before handover or before the furniture arrives: the conduits are empty and the consumer unit has space. The same applies to full renovations of large flats in Los Remedios or Sevilla Este when the whole installation is being redone. You can see what else is worth doing when you get the keys in our new-build section.

Frequently asked questions
What is the advantage of KNX over wireless home automation?
KNX is wired: every push button, sensor and actuator is linked by its own bus, so it does not depend on wifi, has no batteries to change and always responds the same way. It is an open standard with many compatible manufacturers. Wireless systems are cheaper and need no building work, which is why they suit a finished home better.
How much does a KNX installation cost in Seville, Spain?
It is quoted per project, because it depends on how many points and functions you want: lights, blinds, climate, access, touch panels. There are no established public prices. As a market reference, automating a 60 m² flat costs around 1,500 euros plus VAT and a full detached house can reach 20,000 euros plus VAT; KNX sits at the upper end.
Can KNX be installed in a finished house?
It is possible, but the bus cable has to reach every push button and the circuits have to be brought back to the consumer unit, which almost always means building work. That is why KNX fits new builds and full renovations. In a lived-in house we usually recommend a wireless system, which can also work alongside KNX through gateways.
Does it work if the internet goes down?
Yes. All the logic is in the devices on the bus, in your home, not on an external server. If the internet goes down, the push buttons, scenes, schedules and sensors keep working. The internet is only needed to control the house when you are away.
Can I use Alexa, Google Home or my phone with KNX?
Yes, with a gateway or a visualisation server connected to the bus. From your phone you control lights, blinds and climate, and with a voice assistant you trigger scenes. The installation keeps working from its push buttons even if you never open the app.
Will I be tied to the installer who programs it?
No. KNX is an open standard (UNE-EN 50090 and ISO/IEC 14543) and is programmed with ETS software, common to all manufacturers. We hand over the programming project so any KNX integrator can extend or change it in the future, wherever you or the next owner find one.
