Home automation or smart home (domótica)

Systems that automate and control the home (lights, blinds, climate, access, security and consumption) from your phone, by voice or with push buttons, or automatically according to schedules and sensors.

What domótica means

Domótica is the Spanish word for home automation. It connects lights, blinds, climate control, locks, sensors and consumption meters so you can control them from your phone, by voice or with push buttons, and so they act on their own by schedule, presence, temperature or daylight. It is governed by ITC-BT-51 of the REBT.

What it can do in your home

  • Lighting: switch, dim and create scenes with one touch.
  • Blinds and awnings: raise and lower them by schedule, sun or wind. In Seville, lowering blinds at midday in summer helps the air conditioning a lot.
  • Climate: connected thermostats for air conditioning, aerothermal heat pumps or underfloor heating.
  • Security: video door entry, locks, flood, smoke or gas sensors with phone alerts.
  • Consumption: see in real time what each circuit uses.

Wired or wireless

  • Wired, such as KNX: a dedicated bus linking every element. Very reliable and scalable, ideal for new builds or full renovations.
  • Wireless: Zigbee, Z-Wave, wifi or Matter. Installed without building work, using existing boxes, the usual route for a lived-in flat.

Guide price

Automating a 60 m² flat costs around 1,500 euros; a 120 m² home about 2,500 euros; and a fully automated detached house can reach 20,000 euros. Wireless points cost roughly 60 to 120 euros each installed. See smart home installation in Seville, Spain.
