What an authorised electrician in Spain really is

Many people search for an “authorised electrician”, and in Spain it is worth knowing what lies behind the word. Since Royal Decree 560/2010 there is no longer an individual installer’s licence: the body that is authorised (habilitada) is the electrical installation company, entered in the register of the Junta de Andalucía, the regional government. Only an authorised company can sign the electrical installation certificate (the boletín), register it with the regional industry department (Industria) and carry out installations such as an EV charger under ITC-BT-52.

Two things follow from this that surprise many newcomers:

• There is no such thing as an electrician “authorised by Endesa”. The distribution company does not authorise anyone.
• A British, Irish or German electrician cannot sign a boletín in Spain, however well qualified, unless the work is done through an installation company registered here.

How we work

1. We listen and look. You tell us what is happening or what you want to do, by phone, WhatsApp or with photos, and if needed we come to see it.
2. A fixed quote in advance. Before we start, you receive in writing what we will do and what it costs. If we find something different once we open up, we stop and ask you.
3. Work to the REBT. Every installation follows the Low Voltage Electrotechnical Regulation (Royal Decree 842/2002) and its technical instructions.
4. Testing and handover. We measure, test the protection devices and explain how your installation has been left.
5. Paperwork in order. A registered boletín when the job requires one, and a detailed invoice always.
