Electrician in Los Remedios, Seville, Spain: more power, fuse boards and earthing
Electrician in Los Remedios, Seville, for the flats on Calle Asunción, Virgen de Luján or Juan Sebastián Elcano: raising the potencia with its boletín, adding earthing, replacing the fuse board and fixing faults in blocks that mostly keep their 1960s and 1970s wiring.

Los Remedios, a barrio built in one go
Los Remedios went up in just a few decades, mainly in the 1960s and 1970s, on the west bank of the Guadalquivir just south of Triana, over former market gardens. Its layout is easy to recognise: straight streets, regular blocks, Calle Asunción as the shopping spine and many streets named after the Virgin, such as Virgen de Luján, Virgen de África, Virgen del Valle or Virgen de la Victoria. Plaza de Cuba lies to the north; Parque de los Príncipes and the April Fair grounds to the south.
That way of growing explains why the installations are so alike from one doorway to the next. The blocks have large flats (apartments), lifts and often a garage, but many homes still have the original wiring, designed for lights, a fridge, a washing machine and little else.
Electrician in Los Remedios: the four jobs we do most
Raising the potencia
This is the barrio’s most common request. A 100 square metre flat with air conditioning in three rooms, an induction hob and an oven does not fit into 3.3 kW. To do it properly:
- We check the individual riser cable (derivación individual) from the meter to your home, and the main switch.
- If the cable cannot take the new power, we replace it.
- We issue the boletín and file it with the Junta de Andalucía.
- You request the increase from your supplier with that certificate.
There is more detail on increasing contracted power and on the electrical certificate (boletín).
Replacing the fuse board
Many boards here have a single RCD (GFCI) and three or four breakers for the whole flat. A new fuse board (consumer unit) with several RCDs and separate circuits for kitchen, air conditioning and bathrooms stops a leak in the washing machine from blacking out the whole flat. As a guide, from about 300 euros for the simplest board and up to 1,200 euros in old installations.
Adding earthing
If your sockets (outlets) have no connected earth pin, or you feel a tingle when touching the washing machine or the tap, earthing (grounding) is missing. In some buildings it exists at the entrance but never reached every flat; in others it has to be created for the whole block, which is a decision for the comunidad (owners’ community). Our electrical safety section explains the options.
Emergencies
The first autumn rains and the July heatwaves bring the most callouts: RCDs that trip, boards that overheat and partial blackouts. Our 24-hour emergency electrician is available at any hour, with an estimated arrival time when you call.
Before buying or renovating a flat here
Los Remedios is one of the most sought-after barrios in Seville, a short walk from the centre and the river. Many flats change hands to be completely renovated. If you are going to renovate, take advantage of the open kitchen and bathrooms to rewire the whole flat at once, with a fixed price agreed before work starts.
Garages and electric cars
In the communal garages of the barrio, many from the 1970s, more and more residents drive electric cars. Before installing an EV charger in a communal garage we check the cable route from the meter room to your space and the condition of the garage installation, which sometimes needs updating first. You only have to notify the community president or administrator in writing; no vote is needed.
Streets we cover
Asunción, Virgen de Luján, Virgen de África, Virgen del Valle, Virgen de la Victoria, Juan Sebastián Elcano, Niebla and the whole area around Plaza de Cuba and Parque de los Príncipes. Just to the north is Triana, with its own page.
Most requested services in Los Remedios
Increase contracted power
You need to increase your electricity power in Spain when the smart meter cuts everything off as soon as the air conditioning, the oven and the washing machine run together. We check what power your installation can take, upgrade the supply cable, main switch and fuse board if needed, and issue the boletín so the distributor approves the increase.
Fuse board replacement
A consumer unit replacement in Seville, Spain is the upgrade that adds the most safety without building work: main switch, several RCDs, one breaker per circuit and surge protection. We replace your old fuse box, or a board with a single RCD, with a new fuse board (breaker panel) sized for your power and your circuits.
Earthing
Earthing (grounding in the US, toma de tierra in Spain) is what allows your RCD to protect you from an electric shock. In Seville, Spain we carry out earthing installation and testing in flats and houses: earth rods or buried conductor, main earth line, connection of every circuit and a resistance measurement to confirm it works.
24-hour emergency electrician
An emergency electrician in Seville, Spain for when the power goes off, the RCD trips, there is a burning smell or a socket sparks. We come out at any hour, find the fault, give you the price before repairing anything and leave the installation safe.
Electric shocks from taps
If you get electric shocks from taps (faucets), the shower, the washing machine or the fridge, a metal part is live and the current is not being carried to earth. That is a real risk of electrocution. In Seville, Spain we check the earthing (grounding), the protective conductors and the insulation of your appliances to find the fault and remove it.
Electrical certificate (boletín)
The electrical certificate in Spain, known by everyone as the boletín and officially the CIE (certificado de instalación eléctrica), is the document a registered installer company signs to confirm that your installation meets the regulations. You need it to connect the electricity, increase your power or change the account holder with an old installation. We inspect, certify and register it with the Junta de Andalucía in Seville.
Frequently asked questions
I get a small shock when I touch the tap in my Los Remedios flat. What is happening?
An appliance is leaking current and there is no earth for it to escape through, so it looks for another path, such as the pipes. It is common in 1960s and 1970s flats with no earthing or bonding in the bathroom. Unplug the suspect appliance, do not touch the tap barefoot and book an inspection as soon as possible.
Can I go from 3.3 to 5.75 kW in a flat in Los Remedios?
Usually yes, but first we check that the individual riser cable from the meter to your flat and the main switch can take the new power. If the cable is too thin, it is replaced. Then we issue the boletín and you ask your supplier for the increase. The boletín starts at about 70 euros as a market reference.
Should I have the electrics checked before buying a flat in Los Remedios?
Yes. Many flats here are sold to be fully renovated, and an inspection with measurements tells you whether a new fuse board and more power are enough or the whole flat needs rewiring, which can mean several thousand euros. Knowing that before you sign gives you a solid argument to negotiate the price.
