Lighting design in Seville, Spain: why calculate the light first

Most lighting mistakes are discovered when everything is already in place: a kitchen with the worktop in shadow, a living room with flat, cold light, a shop where the product does not stand out. Lighting design in Seville, Spain avoids those mistakes because it calculates the light on the real floor plan before the ceiling is opened or the fittings are bought.

We work with lighting calculation software (Dialux) and real manufacturer data. In workspaces we follow the UNE-EN 12464-1 standard, and in shops and non-residential buildings, the lighting efficiency requirements of the Spanish Building Code (CTE, section HE3).

What the lighting design includes

  • Light level calculations for each area of use: table, worktop, counter, workstation, corridor.
  • Number, type and position of the fittings, with their optics.
  • Lumens and power for each point, so you are neither short of light nor wasting electricity.
  • Colour temperature: warm, 2,700 to 3,000 K, for relaxing; neutral, around 4,000 K, for working.
  • Colour rendering, important in shops, kitchens and bathrooms.
  • Switching, scenes and dimming, with detectors or control from your phone if you want it.

Who we do it for in Seville

  • Flat renovations in Los Remedios or Nervión. New false ceiling, kitchen open to the living room and LED strips in ceiling recesses: the study decides where the downlights and the strips go before the plasterer closes the ceiling.
  • New homes in Palmas Altas, Entrenúcleos or Tomares. They are handed over with light points but no fittings, and that is the moment to think about the light in each room.
  • Shops and offices in the centre. Levels by zone and controls to comply with the Building Code, coordinated with retail and office lighting.
  • Houses in the historic centre with high ceilings, beams or patios, where the light has to respect the building.
  • Warehouses and outdoor areas: storerooms, facades, gardens and roads, with industrial lighting or facade lighting.

How we work

  1. You give us the floor plan, or we draw it up during the visit, and tell us how you use each space.
  2. We calculate and simulate several lighting options.
  3. We present the result as a plan and images, with the list of fittings and their cost.
  4. We adjust whatever you want to change.
  5. If you wish, we install it with a fixed quote based on the study.

Questions the study answers

How many points do I need in the living room? Warm or cool light? Dimmable or not? The study answers each one with figures for your room, not with rules of thumb. If you want to control the light by scenes from your phone, we integrate it with a smart home installation. More jobs under lighting, and our general rates on the prices page.

Frequently asked questions

What is a lighting study?

It is the calculation of the lighting of a space before it is installed. Lighting software simulates the fittings on the real floor plan and checks how much light reaches each area, whether it is even and whether it causes glare. The result is a plan showing the position of each point, the type of fitting, its power and its colour temperature.

How much does a lighting design cost in Seville, Spain?

As a guide, 150 to 600 euros plus 21 % VAT (181.50 to 726 euros in total), depending on size and complexity. A home or a small shop is at the lower end; a large shop with several zones, a warehouse or an outdoor area with facade and garden, at the upper end. If we then do the installation, the whole study is used for the quote.

Is it worth it for a home?

Yes when you are renovating and opening ceilings: that is when a mistake is expensive. The study avoids the classic errors, such as downlights in a row that leave the table in shadow, dazzling corridors or a kitchen with a dark worktop (countertop). In a finished home where you are only changing lamps, good advice during the visit is usually enough.

What is Dialux?

One of the most widely used lighting calculation programs. It lets us load the floor plan, place fittings with the manufacturer's real data and get the light levels at each point, in colour plans and in 3D. You see how the light will look before you buy.

What is the difference between lumens and lux?

Lumens measure the light a lamp gives out; lux measure the light that reaches a surface, for example the table or the worktop. A lamp with plenty of lumens in the wrong place can leave few lux where you need them. That is why the study calculates lux in the areas you use and does not just add up lumens.

What do I receive at the end?

A plan with the position of every fitting, the list of equipment with power, lumens, colour temperature and protection rating, the calculated light levels in each zone and the proposed switching and dimming. With that you can ask for quotes or have us carry out the installation directly.
