What a good LED strip lighting installation looks like

An LED strip is easy to buy and hard to fit well. The ones seen in many homes share the same faults: dots of light reflected in the worktop, sections peeling off, different tones on each piece, hidden power supplies overheating and flicker when dimmed. For LED strip lighting installation in Seville with a clean result, we always work with four parts: the right strip, its aluminium profile with diffuser, a properly sized and accessible power supply, and the control you want.

Where we install them

  • LED strip under kitchen wall cabinets. The most useful task lighting in the home: it lights the worktop with no shadows. It goes in a profile with a diffuser so the dots are not reflected, and switches on with a push button, a sensor or the rest of the lighting. If you are renovating the kitchen, we coordinate it with the kitchen electrics.
  • Indirect lighting in the living room. In false ceiling coves, curtain pelmets or behind the TV unit, it creates atmosphere without glare. Combined with dimmable downlights, you have a light for every moment.
  • Ceiling strip lighting. In ceilings with a perimeter cove, a hidden strip gives soft, even light that makes the room feel larger.
  • LED strip on stairs. A section per step or a profile in the skirting, with a motion sensor so it lights up as you pass. Very practical in duplexes and penthouses.
  • Furniture lighting. Display cabinets, shelves, dressing rooms and wardrobes, switching on when the door opens.
  • Mirrors and headboards. Mirror lighting in the bathroom and indirect reading light in the bedroom.

Strip, colour and output

We choose the strip according to its use: more lumens per metre for kitchen task lighting, fewer for ambient light. Colour temperature also changes: 2,700 to 3,000 K for a warm atmosphere in living rooms and bedrooms, 4,000 K neutral for kitchens and bathrooms. If you want to be able to change it, there are tunable white strips and coloured strips, although for homes we usually recommend well-chosen white light over colour.

Control: push button, dimmer or phone

  • An existing push button or switch, if you only want on and off.
  • A dimmer to raise and lower the level, with a compatible dimmable power supply or controller.
  • A motion sensor on stairs, in dressing rooms or under the bed.
  • Phone or voice control, with a smart controller that integrates with Alexa, Google Home or Apple Home. We extend it to the whole home with smart lighting.

How we work

  1. We look at the space and decide with you where the light goes, what tone and how it is controlled.
  2. We calculate the load of each section and choose a power supply with margin, placed somewhere accessible and ventilated.
  3. We fit profiles and strips, with soldered joints or reliable connectors, feeding long runs from both ends so the tone stays even.
  4. We connect the power supply to the lighting circuit and set up the dimmer or app.
  5. We test the dimming across its whole range to make sure nothing flickers.

Regulations

The installation complies with ITC-BT-44 of the Spanish Low Voltage Electrical Regulations on lighting equipment, and ITC-BT-36 for safety extra-low voltage installations, such as 12 or 24 V strips. In bathrooms we respect the protection zones and the IP rating of each zone.

New homes and renovations

In new-build homes in Entrenúcleos, Palmas Altas or Sevilla Este, the kitchen is usually handed over with no lighting under the cabinets: it is one of the first things people ask for after moving in, together with light fittings. If you have bought off-plan, our new-build section covers what else is usually missing. In renovations of flats in Los Remedios or Nervión with a new false ceiling, it is the moment to leave the cove ready. More ideas on the lighting page.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to install an LED strip?

Roughly 15 to 40 euros plus 21 % VAT per metre installed, depending on the strip, the profile and how difficult the fitting is. A strip under kitchen cabinets or a simple ceiling cove sits at the lower end; a staircase with a section per step and a motion sensor, at the upper end.

Is an aluminium profile necessary?

Almost always advisable. The profile draws away heat and extends the life of the strip, and the diffuser stops the individual dots showing in a glossy worktop or on the ceiling. Without a profile, the strip runs hot, the adhesive comes away over time and the light is uneven.

Where does the power supply go?

Somewhere ventilated and accessible: on top of a wall cabinet, in a false ceiling access hatch or in a box. Never hidden with no access, because it is the part that fails first and you need to be able to change it without dismantling the kitchen.

Can LED strips be dimmed?

Yes, with a dimmable power supply or controller and a compatible dimmer. They can be dimmed with a push button, a remote, from your phone or through a smart home system, and tunable white strips can even switch from warm to neutral light.

Can LED strips go in a bathroom?

Yes, with the right protection rating for each bathroom zone and a safety extra-low voltage supply. Strips around mirrors and in shower niches must be waterproof, and the power supply must sit outside the wet zones, somewhere ventilated and accessible. We respect the bathroom protection zones set by the regulations.

My new-build kitchen in Seville has no light under the cabinets. Can you add it after handover?

Yes, it is one of the most common jobs after moving into a new home. We run the strip in a profile under the wall cabinets, place the power supply where it can be reached, and connect it to a switch, a sensor or the rest of the kitchen lighting.
