Kitchen electrics in Seville, Spain: dedicated circuits for induction hob, oven and dishwasher

Kitchen electrics in Seville, Spain need dedicated lines for the induction hob (cooktop) and the oven, another for the washing machine, dishwasher and water heater, and enough sockets along the worktop. We wire the circuits with the cross-section and protection the Spanish regulations require, in a new kitchen or when you swap gas for induction.

Why the kitchen needs its own circuits

The kitchen concentrates the most power-hungry appliances in the home: induction hob, oven, dishwasher, washing machine (in many Seville flats it sits in the kitchen or in the utility gallery), water heater (termo), microwave and extractor hood. If they all hang off one or two lines, breakers trip, sockets heat up and cables work at their limit.

That is why the Spanish Low Voltage Electrotechnical Regulation, in ITC-BT-25, sets out specific circuits for the kitchen. If you are used to a British ring main, the Spanish approach is different: radial circuits, each for a defined use, with a breaker sized to its cable.

For high-power induction hobs, which can reach about 7,000 W, a dedicated 6 mm² line with a 25 A or 32 A circuit breaker, depending on the hob, is common. We explain it in detail on induction hob circuit.

What your kitchen electrics include

  • A line for the hob, induction or ceramic, with an accessible connection box.
  • A line for the oven, shared with the hob or separate depending on the power.
  • A circuit for the washing machine, dishwasher and water heater, with earthed sockets and protection against damp.
  • Auxiliary sockets spread along the worktop and the island, and dedicated sockets for the fridge, hood and microwave.
  • Lighting under the wall units, in the hood and on the ceiling. To add points, see extra sockets and lights.
  • Adapting the fuse board with the new breakers and, if needed, another RCD. See fuse board replacement.

How we work

  1. Kitchen plan. We start from the units and appliance layout to place each socket at the right height and in the right space.
  2. Fuse board and power check. We confirm whether the fuse board can take the new circuits and whether your contracted power is enough.
  3. Chasing and wiring while the walls are open, before tiling and fitting the units. If the kitchen is part of a bigger project, we coordinate it within the renovation electrics.
  4. Connecting the appliances once the fitter has finished the units.
  5. Tests of insulation, earthing and RCD, and a certificate if the work requires it.

Kitchens without gas: switching to induction

More and more families in Seville are giving up the butane bottle or the gas supply for an all-electric kitchen. The change needs three things: a dedicated line for the hob, its protection in the fuse board and a contracted power that can carry the hob together with the air conditioning and the rest of the home. If the power is not checked, the symptom soon appears: the power goes off while you cook dinner. If that happens, see MCB keeps tripping and, if your power falls short, increase contracted power.

Kitchens in Seville flats

In the 1960s and 1970s flats of Nervión, Los Remedios, Heliópolis or La Macarena, the original kitchen usually has a single line for everything and, with luck, one socket for the washing machine. A typical renovation: the family opens the kitchen onto the living room and wants an island with an induction hob, a tower oven, a dishwasher and a worktop full of small appliances. With the walls open we run the hob, oven and washing lines from an adapted fuse board and spread sockets along the worktop and the island. In new homes in Sevilla Este or Entrenúcleos the kitchen already has its circuits, and what is most requested is a new line to change the hob or for an island that was not planned.

Frequently asked questions

What cable does an induction hob need?

A dedicated 6 mm² line from the fuse board, protected with a 25 A or 32 A circuit breaker depending on the power of the hob, with its earth conductor. The connection box must stay accessible behind the unit. What must not be done is to plug the hob into an ordinary socket or connect it to a 2.5 mm² line.

Can the oven and the hob share the same line?

ITC-BT-25 provides a C3 circuit for cooker and oven, 6 mm² and 25 A. With powerful induction hobs and ovens used at the same time, it is often better to separate them on their own lines so the breaker does not trip when you cook with everything on. We decide according to the appliances.

How much do kitchen electrics cost in Seville, Spain?

Installing a hob with its line starts at about 320 euros for 2 zones and about 450 euros for 4 zones, as a market reference, plus 21 % VAT (387.20 and 544.50 euros in total). Connecting an oven costs 50 to 120 euros and each socket for a washing machine or dishwasher 40 to 120 euros, plus VAT. A full kitchen is quoted by circuits.

What is needed to switch from gas to induction?

A new 6 mm² line to the hob, its protection added in the fuse board and a check that your contracted power (potencia contratada) can carry the hob together with the rest of the home. If the installation is old, the fuse board may need adapting too. We check it before you buy the hob.

Why does the power trip when I use the oven and the hob together?

Because together they draw more than the circuit feeding them can take, and the circuit breaker cuts out on overload. It happens a lot in older kitchens where everything hangs off a single line. The solution is to spread the appliances over dedicated circuits, not to fit a bigger breaker.

How many sockets should go along the worktop?

More than you think. Coffee machine, toaster, food processor, microwave, kettle and chargers pile up. The practical answer is to spread sockets along the worktop and the island on a kitchen auxiliary sockets circuit, and to leave dedicated sockets for the fridge, the extractor hood and a built-in microwave.

Can I keep my UK kettle and toaster in a Spanish kitchen?

Spanish kitchens use the Schuko socket (type F), so UK appliances need an adaptor or a plug change. What matters more is spreading powerful appliances such as kettles and toasters over the kitchen auxiliary sockets circuit rather than running them from a power strip on a single socket.

Induction hob circuit

The induction hob electrical requirements in Spain are clear: to fit an induction hob (cooktop) in Seville properly, the electrician runs a dedicated 6 mm² line from the fuse board, with its own 25 or 32 A circuit breaker and a connection box behind the unit. That way the hob works at full power and the electricity does not trip when it coincides with the oven.

Renovation electrics

If you are renovating your flat, renovation electrics in Seville, Spain are the moment to bring the installation up to the way you live today: new kitchen and bathroom circuits, fuse board, chases and conduits, light points where you need them and the boletín at the end. We work in coordination with your builder or renovation company.

Extra sockets and lights

We install extra sockets in your apartment in Seville, Spain where you now use power strips, new light points, two-way switches, USB, data and TV sockets, and new lines for appliances that need them. MCB keeps tripping

If your MCB keeps tripping when you switch on the oven, the air conditioning or the washing machine, that circuit is overloaded or has a fault. We check the line, spread the loads or replace the circuit breaker (magnetotérmico) so your kitchen or living room stops losing power.

Increase contracted power

You need to increase your electricity power in Spain when the smart meter cuts everything off as soon as the air conditioning, the oven and the washing machine run together. We check what power your installation can take, upgrade the supply cable, main switch and fuse board if needed, and issue the boletín so the distributor approves the increase.

Fuse board replacement

A consumer unit replacement in Seville, Spain is the upgrade that adds the most safety without building work: main switch, several RCDs, one breaker per circuit and surge protection. We replace your old fuse box, or a board with a single RCD, with a new fuse board (breaker panel) sized for your power and your circuits.
