New electricity connection and dealings with the distributor in Seville, Spain
We manage your new electricity connection in Seville, Spain from start to finish: the boletín (electrical installation certificate) for the connection, the application to the distributor, energising the supply and, if needed, a new service connection. Whether you are moving into a new home or bringing back a supply that was cut off, we handle the paperwork and the coordination with e-distribución.

When you need a new electricity connection
- A new-build home that does not yet have a supply contract.
- A home or business whose supply was cut off for a while, for example after an inheritance, a repossession or a long period standing empty.
- A house or plot with no supply at all, which needs a new service connection (acometida) from the network.
- A change of account holder when the distributor asks for a new boletín.
- Business premises about to open that need their own electricity contract.
In Spain this process is called the alta de luz. If what you want is to change the power of a supply that already works, the process is different: we explain it on increase contracted power.
What we manage for you
- A check of the installation. We confirm that the installation in the home is fit to receive the supply and that its paperwork is valid.
- The boletín, if needed. If the installation has no certificate, or the one it has is not valid for the connection, we issue the electrical certificate (boletín) and register it with the Junta de Andalucía.
- The application to the distributor. We prepare and submit the application to e-distribución with the right power for your use.
- The service connection, if there is none. If the house or plot has no network, we request the connection and coordinate the works that fall on the private side.
- Follow-up. We deal with the distributor’s requests and let you know when the supply is ready, so you can sign up with the supplier of your choice.
Distributor and supplier: who does what
Many people believe the company they sign with is the one that connects them. In reality two different companies are involved:
- The distributor (distribuidora) owns the network and the meter. In Seville it is e-distribución, part of the Endesa group. It physically connects the supply and charges the connection, energising and extension fees.
- The supplier (comercializadora) is the company you sign the contract with and that bills you for the energy. You can choose whichever you like.
Access and connection to the network are governed by Royal Decree 1955/2000, and the building supply installations (service connection, main fuse box, meter room and riser cable) are covered by ITC-BT-11 to ITC-BT-16 of the Spanish Low Voltage Electrotechnical Regulation.
Choosing the right power from the start
When the electricity is connected, your contracted power (potencia contratada) is set, and it is worth getting it right: too low and it will cut out when you switch on several appliances (see power limiter tripping); too high and you will overpay every month. We help you calculate it from the equipment you will use at the same time, taking into account what your installation allows according to its certificate.
New connections in Seville’s new-build developments
The moment when most connections are requested is the handover of keys in new developments: Sevilla Este, Los Bermejales, Isla Natura, Entrenúcleos in Dos Hermanas or the new developments of Mairena del Aljarafe and Tomares. You can read about them in our new-build section, for example Entrenúcleos or Palmas Altas and Isla Natura. A typical case: the buyer gets the keys to a flat in Sevilla Este, the developer hands over the paperwork for the installation and the buyer needs the supply activated before moving in, while also ordering light fittings or an EV charger. We help choose the power, check the paperwork and follow up with the distributor. If the home is brand new, see also new home wiring. Another frequent case is older homes in the historic centres of the province’s towns that have stood empty for years, where a new boletín is usually needed before connection.
A foreign buyer’s checklist
- Your NIE (foreigner’s tax identification number) and the deeds or rental contract.
- The CUPS code of the supply point, printed on any previous bill or in the developer’s paperwork.
- A valid boletín, or our visit to issue one.
- The supplier you want, which you can change later.

Frequently asked questions
What do I need to connect the electricity in a new home in Spain?
You need the electrical installation certificate (boletín) registered with the Junta de Andalucía, the supply point reference (the CUPS code) and a supplier of your choice. The distributor reviews the application, charges its fees and connects the supply. In a new-build development the developer usually hands over the paperwork for each home.
How long does it take to get the electricity connected?
It depends mainly on the distributor and on whether the supply point already exists. If the meter is installed and the paperwork is correct, it is much quicker than when a new service connection or a network extension is needed. When we review your case we give you an estimated timeframe.
Do I need a boletín to put the electricity contract in my name?
For a change of account holder with nothing else changing, the contract is normally enough. But if the supply was cut off, if the installation is over 20 years old without a valid certificate or if you are changing the power at the same time, the distributor may ask for a new boletín. We check it before you start the process.
What is the difference between the distributor and the supplier?
The distributor (distribuidora) owns the network and the meter and is the one that physically connects the power; in Seville it is e-distribución. The supplier (comercializadora, retailer in the US) is the company you sign the contract with and that bills you for the energy. The technical connection goes through the distributor, even if the supplier starts it.
How much does a new electricity connection cost in Seville, Spain?
Managing it starts at about 160 euros plus 21 % VAT (193.60 euros in total). On top come the fees the distributor charges for the connection, energising and, if the network has to be extended, the extension, plus the boletín if the installation does not have a valid one, which as a market reference costs 70 to 300 euros plus VAT.
What is an acometida and who pays for it?
The acometida is the service connection: the stretch of the distributor's network that reaches the main fuse box (CGP) of the building or the plot. If the land or the house has no supply, you have to request it from the distributor, which sets the technical conditions and the extension fees payable by the applicant.
