Connection fees (derechos de alta, enganche y extensión)

Regulated amounts the distributor charges to connect a new supply or increase the power of an existing one. They are paid separately from the electrician's invoice and depend on the kW requested and the network that has to be built.

What connection fees are

Derechos de alta are the amounts the distributor (in Seville, e-distribución) charges when it connects a supply for the first time or when you increase the power of one you already have. They are not profit for the company or the electrician: they are regulated by the state, and the distributor sets them out in the technical and economic conditions it sends when processing your request.

Types of fee

  • Extension fees (extensión): pay for the network needed to give you the power you request. Calculated per kW requested.
  • Access fees (acceso): charged per kW for joining the distribution network.
  • Connection fee (enganche): a fixed amount for connecting your installation to the network.
  • Verification fee (verificación): a fixed amount for checking the installation when a supply that was cut off is reconnected.

If major work is needed to serve you (for example, a new service connection or reinforcing the network), the distributor may quote it separately.

When they are not charged

  • Change of holder with no changes: normally free.
  • Power already recognised: extension fees stay linked to the installation, so contracting a power already paid for is not charged again.
  • Lowering power: generates no extension fees.

When to call an electrician

A new home or a power increase beyond what your installation allows needs a boletín (CIE), roughly 70 to 300 euros, and managing a new connection costs from 160 euros, always plus the distributor’s fees. See increase contracted power in Seville, Spain.
