Service connection or service drop (acometida)

Section of the distributor's network that runs from its line in the street to the main fuse box (CGP) of the building or house. It belongs to the distributor, which maintains and repairs it.

What the acometida is

It is the first stretch of the route electricity takes to your home. It links the distributor’s low voltage network with the main fuse box (caja general de protección, CGP) on the façade or in the entrance hall. After that box the building’s installation begins: the main supply line, the meters and each home’s riser cable. In Seville the distributor is e-distribución, part of the Endesa group.

Types

  • Overhead. Cables strung or clipped along façades, common in old neighbourhoods, villages and low houses.
  • Underground. The cable arrives buried from the street to the box. Usual in housing estates and new buildings.

Who pays and who repairs

  • Faults and maintenance: the distributor’s job. If a joint burns out or a façade cable falls, call them.
  • New or larger connections: when you request a new supply or more power than the existing network allows, the distributor charges regulated connection or extension fees, on top of the connection itself.
  • What you pay for: everything after the CGP that belongs to you, whether the comunidad (owners’ association) or your home.

When it affects you

If the whole building or street loses power, the fault may be in the network or the acometida, and the distributor fixes it. If only you are without power, check your fuse box first. For communal faults see homeowners’ associations in Seville, Spain.
