Christmas lights installation in Seville, Spain: what we put up
At Christmas, light sells, decorates and brings the street to life. The Christmas lights installation we do in Seville ranges from a shop facade to the courtyard of a residential community:
- Shops and shop windows: light curtains, garlands on facades and balconies, light-up figures and floodlights.
- Facades of homes and buildings: balconies, cornices and garden trees.
- Communities of owners (comunidades), the associations that run Spanish blocks of flats: entrance, courtyard, gardens and common areas.
- Traders’ associations: sections of shopping street, coordinated with the other businesses.
- Events: lighting and power for celebrations, stands and film shoots.
Doing it safely
Temporary installations have their own instruction in the Spanish Low Voltage Electrotechnical Regulation (REBT): ITC-BT-34, on fairs and exhibitions. What we apply in practice:
- Dedicated circuit or temporary switchboard with a 30 mA RCD and circuit breaker, separate from the rest of the premises.
- Outdoor-rated material with the right IP protection rating and weatherproof joints, because Christmas in Seville usually brings some rain.
- No daisy-chained power strips and no extension leads (extension cords) coiled in the sun.
- Work at height with the right equipment, ladder or platform, in line with Royal Decree 2177/2004.
- Automatic switching with a time switch or photocell.
Where we do it most
In shops in the city centre and the historic quarter, where the competition for window displays is fierce and the balconies are narrow; in Nervión and Triana, with shopfronts on ground floors and mezzanines; in communities in Los Remedios and Sevilla Este that decorate the entrance and the garden; and in towns such as Dos Hermanas or Utrera, in shops on the main shopping streets. In each case we study where the nearest socket or switchboard is, how to run the cable without getting in the way and how to keep the window visible.
How we work
- We look at the facade or the shop and the material you already have.
- We propose the design and the power supply, with a fixed quote.
- We install on the agreed date, usually outside opening hours.
- We programme the switching and leave the switchboard labelled.
- We dismantle after Epiphany (Reyes, 6 January), and leave the material checked and stored for the following year.
What we need to know to give you a price
To quote without a visit, or to keep the visit short, it helps to have some photos of the facade or the window, rough measurements, where the nearest socket or switchboard is and whether you already have material from previous years. With that we tell you what can be reused, what is worth buying and how much installing and dismantling will cost, all fixed before we start.
Lighting all year round
Many clients who start with Christmas end up wanting permanent lighting for their facade or shop window. If that is you, see facade lighting. For large events or fairs, the details are on temporary installations, and for replacing fittings on high ceilings, high-level lighting maintenance. More jobs under lighting.

Frequently asked questions
When should I book Christmas lights installation?
The sooner the better: installations pile up in the weeks before the early December bank holidays (the puente de diciembre) and the good dates fill up. If you contact us in October or early November, there is time to see the facade, buy any missing material and install without rushing. We also agree the dismantling date.
Can I plug the lights into any socket in the shop?
For a small string inside the shop window, yes. For the facade or a large display, no: the right way is a dedicated circuit with its own RCD and circuit breaker, or a temporary switchboard, so a leak outside does not cut power to the till or the cold room. Daisy-chained extension leads and power strips are the usual cause of faults.
What happens if it rains with the lights up?
If the material is rated for outdoor use and the connections are protected, nothing. We use garlands and floodlights with the right IP protection rating, weatherproof joints and a dedicated RCD. If it trips with the first rain, that points to a badly protected connection, which we find and replace.
Can the switching on and off be programmed?
Yes. We fit a time switch or a photocell so the lighting comes on at dusk and goes off at the time you choose. It does not depend on someone remembering, it uses no power in the early hours and, if the shop has different opening hours on public holidays, we adjust it for those days.
Do you also set up lighting for events?
Yes. For events, stands, fairs, film shoots or celebrations we set up temporary switchboards, temporary supply connections, lighting and power sockets, following ITC-BT-34 on temporary installations at fairs and exhibitions. We quote with the power needed and the type of switchboard for each event.
Can you install the lights I already have from previous years?
Yes. Send us photos of your material and we tell you what can be reused and what is worth replacing, for example indoor garlands that should not go outside or worn cables. At the end of the season we take everything down, check it and leave it packed for next year.
