Outdoor lighting in Seville: light to enjoy the garden at night
In Seville the garden, terrace and porch are used mostly after sunset, especially in the hot months. That is why outdoor lighting is not a luxury: it is what lets you eat outside, see the path to the front door and enjoy the pool at night. It is also a safety matter, because outdoor electrics are the ones that suffer most from water, sun and sprinklers.
What an outdoor lighting installation includes
- Bollards for paths and outdoor steps, low and with light directed at the ground so they do not dazzle.
- LED garden spotlights and floodlights to uplight trees, hedges or walls.
- Weatherproof wall lights on the façade, porch and pergola.
- Terrace lighting for flats and penthouses, with wall lights or weatherproof strips.
- Pool lighting with submersible lights and perimeter lighting. See also swimming pool electrics.
- Light points on the porch and pergola, dimmable to create atmosphere.
What you do not see: circuits, protection and sealing
The most important part of outdoor lighting is buried or hidden:
- Circuits with their own RCD protection, so a leak in the garden does not black out the house and the fault stays isolated.
- Buried lines in conduit with accessible inspection pits, according to ITC-BT-07 for underground networks.
- The right IP protection rating for each spot: IP65 for exposed fittings and IP68 for pool or fountain lights.
- Sealed connections at every fitting and box, which is where water usually gets in.
If you already have garden lights and the RCD trips with the first rains, it is almost always a spotlight or box that is not sealed. We find it and fix it.
Automatic switching and savings
- Dusk-to-dawn switch: on at nightfall, off at sunrise.
- Astronomical clock: calculates sunset every day and can be set to switch off at midnight.
- Timer: so the porch light switches itself off.
- Motion sensor at entrances, the garage and the bin area.
- Control from your phone, integrated with the home’s smart system.
With LED fittings, outdoor lighting uses very little power. All the control options are on the motion sensors and dimmers page.
Warm light that does not bother the neighbours
Outdoors we recommend warm light, 2,700 to 3,000 K, which brings out the plants and creates atmosphere. We aim floodlights downwards or at the feature being lit, without sending light into the sky or the neighbours’ windows, in line with the Andalusian light pollution regulations (Decree 357/2010).
How we work
- We visit the plot by day and, if needed, at night, to see what is used and what you want to highlight.
- We propose the light points, the type of fitting and the control.
- We do the groundwork: trenches, conduit, inspection pits and wiring, with as little damage to the lawn as possible.
- We install fittings, protection devices and automation and adjust the aiming at night.
- We hand you the documentation and, if the installation requires it, the boletín (the electrical installation certificate).
Regulations
We apply ITC-BT-09 on outdoor lighting, ITC-BT-30 for wet locations, ITC-BT-31 for pools and fountains, and ITC-BT-07 for buried lines, all part of the Spanish Low Voltage Electrical Regulations.

| Buried line to a shed or outbuilding | 300 to 900 euros depending on distance |
The final price depends on the type of fitting, the distance to the fuse board and whether a trench has to be dug. For sockets by the barbecue or on the terrace, see outdoor sockets.
Villas and gardens around Seville
We work mostly in villas and townhouses in the Aljarafe (Aljarafe north, Tomares, Mairena or Bormujos), on the estates of Dos Hermanas and Montequinto, in Alcalá de Guadaíra and in the houses of La Rinconada. In new homes, it is worth laying the conduits before the lawn goes down. If your garden also has a pool, irrigation or an automatic gate, we look at it all together in outdoor, pools and gates. And if you want shade on the terrace that retracts by itself in the wind, see motorised blinds and awnings. More solutions on the lighting page.

Frequently asked questions
What IP rating do outdoor lights need?
As a guide, IP65 for outdoor fittings exposed to rain and IP68 for lights submerged in pools or fountains. Under a covered porch a lower rating may be enough, but in Seville, with heavy downpours and automatic irrigation (sprinklers), we prefer to go over the minimum.
Solar lights or wired lights?
Solar lights are easy to put in, but they give little light and their battery loses capacity over the years. For a driveway, the façade or the pool, wired lighting is more reliable. Solar lights can work as decorative lighting where running a cable is not worth it.
How can the garden lights switch on automatically?
With a dusk-to-dawn switch, which turns them on at nightfall and off at sunrise; an astronomical clock that calculates sunset every day; a timer; or motion sensors at entrances. They can also be controlled from your phone, which is useful if the house stands empty part of the year.
Why does the RCD trip when it rains if I have garden lights?
Because water has got into a spotlight, a bollard or a junction box that is not properly sealed. It is very common with the first autumn rains. It is solved by finding the point and sealing it or replacing it with one that has the correct IP rating.
How much does it cost to light a garden?
Roughly 50 to 120 euros plus 21 % VAT per outdoor point installed, depending on the type of fitting and the distance to the fuse board. The number of points depends on the paths, trees and areas you want to highlight. We give you a fixed price after seeing the plot.
I let my villa to holiday guests. What outdoor lighting should I prioritise?
Guests arrive at night and do not know the garden, so start with the entrance, the path to the door, steps and the pool surround. Automatic switching at dusk means nobody has to remember a switch, and LED fittings keep consumption very low.
