High-immunity RCD in Seville, Spain: protection without nuisance tripping
We fit a high-immunity RCD in Seville, Spain when yours trips for no reason with LED lights, the induction hob, inverter air conditioning or the EV charger. First we check there is no real earth leakage, then we choose the right RCD (high-immunity, type A, F or B) so it protects just as well and stops tripping.

High-immunity RCD in Seville: when you need one
The 30 mA RCD (residual current device) is the protection that saves lives: it cuts the power as soon as it detects earth leakage, and the REBT, the Spanish Low Voltage Regulation, requires it on every circuit in a home (ITC-BT-25). But today’s homes and businesses are full of electronics that produce small leaks and disturbances, and a standard RCD can trip with no real danger: in the early hours, with a distant storm or when several appliances are switched on at once.
A high-immunity RCD keeps exactly the same protection for people but does not trip on that noise. We fit them in homes, shops and offices in Seville, Spain when the tripping has no real leak behind it.
First, rule out a real leak
Replacing the RCD without looking for the cause just hides the symptom. If it trips, it may be doing exactly its job. So before recommending a high-immunity RCD:
- We separate the circuits to see whether the tripping is concentrated on one.
- We measure the insulation of each circuit with an insulation tester.
- We check the earthing (grounding).
- We test the existing RCD with a tester that measures its tripping current and time.
If a leak turns up, we repair it, as we explain on RCD keeps tripping. If there is none and the tripping continues, the problem is immunity, and the right RCD solves it.
Which type of RCD suits you
| Type | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Class AC | The classic type, detects AC leakage. It now falls short with modern electronics. |
| Type A | Also detects leakage with a pulsating DC component, common in inverter washing machines, induction hobs and electronic power supplies. |
| High-immunity | A type A reinforced against spikes, harmonics and high-frequency leakage. The one that ends nuisance tripping. |
| Type F | Designed for equipment with a single-phase drive, such as washing machines, heat pumps or inverter air conditioners. |
| Type B | Also detects smooth DC leakage. Required by some EV chargers, solar installations and equipment with a three-phase drive. |
Types A, B and high-immunity are explained in more detail in our glossary.
Signs that your RCD is not the right one
- It trips at night with nothing on, or with only the fridge and the router.
- It trips during storms even when no lightning strikes nearby.
- It trips when the air conditioning, the induction hob or the pool pump starts.
- It started tripping when you changed all the bulbs to LED or had the EV charger installed.
- Measurements find no leak and it still keeps tripping.
Regulations
- ITC-BT-24: protection against direct and indirect contact, which is the RCD’s job.
- ITC-BT-25: 30 mA RCDs on home circuits.
- UNE-EN 61008: the standard for residual current circuit breakers.
- ITC-BT-52: type A RCD with DC detection or type B at charging points.
Several RCDs are better than one
In many old fuse boards a single RCD protects the whole home. Sharing the circuits between two or three RCDs reduces the leakage each one sees and means that, if one trips, the whole home does not go dark. It is a good moment to put the high-immunity RCD on the fridge, router or computer circuits, and to add an auto-reclosing RCD if it is a second home. If the board has no more room, see fuse board replacement.
RCDs in flats and villas around Seville
In the 1960s and 1970s flats of Nervión, Los Remedios or Triana, tripping usually combines two things: boards with a single RCD and new electronics connected to an old installation. There we combine the check with sharing out the circuits. In Sevilla Este and the housing estates of Dos Hermanas, Mairena del Aljarafe, Tomares or Bormujos, with aerothermal heat pumps (aerotermia), induction hobs, pools and EV chargers, the usual answer is type A or high-immunity RCDs on several circuits and, sometimes, a type B for the charger, as on the home EV charger for houses we install.
How we work
- You tell us when it trips and which appliances you have.
- Diagnosis: insulation and earthing measurements and an RCD test.
- Proposal for the type of RCD and how to share out the circuits.
- Fixed quote before anything is changed.
- Installation and test with an RCD tester.

Frequently asked questions
What is a high-immunity RCD?
It is a 30 mA RCD (the diferencial, or GFCI in American English) that protects people exactly like a standard one but is designed not to trip on harmless disturbances: voltage spikes, harmonics and small high-frequency leakage produced by electronics, LED lights, drives or chargers. In Spain it is sold as superinmunizado. It trips when there is a real leak, not because of noise.
Why does my RCD trip for no reason?
Sometimes there is a reason: a leak caused by damp or a faulty appliance, and it has to be found. Other times it is the sum of small leaks from many electronic devices, or grid spikes during storms. If we measure and find no real leak, a high-immunity RCD or one of the right class puts an end to the tripping.
How much does it cost to replace an RCD with a high-immunity one?
As a guide, 90 to 250 euros fitted, plus 21 % VAT, depending on the type, the rating and whether it is single-phase or three-phase. Type B units, which some chargers and equipment with drives require, are at the top of the range. We give you a fixed price after seeing the fuse board and knowing what appliances you have.
Which RCD do I need for an EV charger in Spain?
ITC-BT-52 requires charging points to have a type A RCD with 6 mA DC detection, or a type B. Many chargers already include that detection, in which case a type A in the board is enough. We check the charger's data sheet before installing it.
Is a high-immunity RCD less safe?
No. It has the same 30 mA sensitivity and must trip on a dangerous leak within the same times as a standard one. What changes is its immunity to disturbances that pose no risk. After fitting it we test it with an RCD tester to verify its tripping current and time.
Can I fit a high-immunity RCD on just some circuits?
Yes, and it is often the most sensible option. The circuits are shared between several RCDs and the high-immunity one goes on the circuits that feed sensitive electronics or equipment that must not stop, such as the fridge, the router or the computers, leaving the rest on type A RCDs.

RCD keeps tripping
If your RCD keeps tripping and will not stay up, there is a current leaking to earth somewhere in a circuit or an appliance. We locate it with an insulation tester, repair it and check that your RCD (GFCI) protects you as it should.
Auto-reclosing and selectivity
We fit an auto-reclosing RCD in Seville, Spain: a device that switches the protection back on when it trips because of a passing disturbance, after checking that there is no leak. And we reorganise the fuse board with selectivity so that, when something fails, only the affected circuit trips and not the whole house or business.
Surge protection
Surge protection in your fuse board in Seville, Spain is the cheapest way to save the fridge, TV, router, boiler and induction hob from lightning, storms and voltage surges. We fit protectors against transient and permanent overvoltage, or combined units, in homes, business premises, EV chargers and solar installations.
Safety testing
Electrical safety testing of your installation in Seville, Spain with calibrated instruments: earth electrode resistance, cable insulation, loop impedance and the tripping of every RCD. You receive a report with the measured values and what needs correcting, for 70 to 150 euros plus VAT in a home.
Fuse board replacement
A consumer unit replacement in Seville, Spain is the upgrade that adds the most safety without building work: main switch, several RCDs, one breaker per circuit and surge protection. We replace your old fuse box, or a board with a single RCD, with a new fuse board (breaker panel) sized for your power and your circuits.
Home EV charger for houses
EV charger installation in Seville, Spain for your villa or townhouse is a one-day job: a dedicated circuit from your fuse board, its own protection devices, a 7.4 to 22 kW wallbox and a boletín registered with the Junta de Andalucía. In 2026 you can still deduct 15 % in your Spanish income tax return.
