Electrical safety
Electrical safety testing in Seville, Spain: earthing, insulation, loop impedance and RCDs
Electrical safety testing of your installation in Seville, Spain with calibrated instruments: earth electrode resistance, cable insulation, loop impedance and the tripping of every RCD. You receive a report with the measured values and what needs correcting, for 70 to 150 euros plus VAT in a home.

Electrical safety testing in Seville: find out whether your installation really protects you
An installation can look perfect and still have poor earthing, an RCD that does not trip or cables with damaged insulation. None of this can be seen with the naked eye, and it almost never gives warning before it fails. Electrical safety testing means measuring, with calibrated instruments, the values that show whether your protection devices will work on the day they are needed.
We carry out safety measurements in homes, business premises, residential buildings and warehouses in Seville, Spain, and hand you a report with every measured value and what should be corrected.
What we measure
- Earth electrode resistance. If it is too high, faults are not drained away properly and the RCDs do not protect as they should.
- Continuity of the protective conductors. Checking that every socket (outlet) and every metal appliance is really connected to earth (ground).
- Cable insulation, circuit by circuit, to find damaged conductors before they cause leaks or overheating.
- Loop impedance, which shows whether the protection devices will disconnect in time in a short circuit or a fault.
- RCD tripping: at what current they trip and how quickly, not just whether the test button works.
- Phase sequence on three-phase installations.
When a test is worth it
- You live in an older home and do not know what condition the installation is in.
- You are buying or renting a home or premises. For a broader report, see electrical survey before buying.
- You notice shocks from taps or appliances, or the RCD trips often.
- You have been through a heavy storm and want to know whether anything was damaged.
- You have just finished a renovation and want it checked.
- You have an OCA inspection coming up and want to arrive with no defects.
Testing, check-up, certificate and inspection are not the same
| Service | What it is |
|---|---|
| Safety measurements | Measurements with instruments and a report on the current condition |
| Installation check-up | General visual and functional diagnosis, with proposed improvements |
| Old installation certificate | Inspection and certificate for installations more than 20 years old |
| OCA inspection | Statutory inspection by an authorised control body in the cases set by ITC-BT-05 |
Measurements are the basis of everything else: without numbers there is no reliable diagnosis.
Regulations
- ITC-BT-05: checks and inspections of low-voltage installations.
- ITC-BT-19, section 2.9: insulation resistance of indoor installations.
- UNE 20460-6-61 and UNE-HD 60364-6: methods for initial and periodic verification of installations.
What happens if something fails
The report is not just a list of numbers. If a value is not right, we explain what it means and what has to be done:
- High or non-existent earth resistance: improving or installing the earthing, with earth rods and a main earthing conductor.
- An RCD that does not trip or trips late: replacement, and if it trips for no reason, a high-immunity RCD.
- Low insulation on a circuit: tracing the section or appliance and repairing it.
- High loop impedance: checking connections, cable sizes and protection devices.
Testing in older flats and new builds around Seville
In the 1960s and 1970s blocks of Nervión, Los Remedios or Macarena, and in the old tenement houses (casas de vecinos) of Triana and the city centre, it is common to find homes with no earthing, or with earthing that nobody has ever measured, and wiring with ageing insulation. In the new flats of Dos Hermanas, Mairena del Aljarafe or Alcalá de Guadaíra, testing when you receive the keys is the way to check that everything is as it should be before you claim from the developer.
How we work
- Visit with the fuse board accessible and, where possible, without interrupting activity more than necessary.
- Measurements circuit by circuit with calibrated instruments.
- Report with the measured values, their interpretation and the recommended corrections.
- Quote for any repairs, if needed, separate from the measurements.

Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to test the earthing and check the installation?
As a guide, safety measurements with a report for a home cost 70 to 150 euros plus 21 % VAT, depending on size and the number of circuits. The full test protocol with certificate, for business premises or larger installations, costs 100 to 250 euros. If anything needs correcting, we quote it separately.
What is measured in an electrical safety test?
The continuity of the protective conductors, the resistance of the earth electrode, the insulation of each circuit, the loop impedance, which shows whether the protection devices will disconnect in time in a fault, and the tripping current and time of each RCD. On three-phase installations, the phase sequence as well.
Is this the same as a UK EICR?
It covers similar tests: earthing, insulation, loop impedance and RCDs, with a written report of the values. It does not replace the installation certificate (boletín), which the installer company issues when an installation is built or altered, nor the compulsory OCA inspections some installations have. The measurements tell you how yours stands today.
How do I know whether my RCD really works?
The RCD test button only checks its mechanism. To know whether it really protects, a tester has to measure the current at which it trips and how long it takes. An RCD can switch on and off normally and still fail to trip on a real leak. It is one of the most important checks in the report.
What is an OCA inspection, and do these measurements replace it?
An OCA is an authorised control body that carries out the statutory inspection required by ITC-BT-05 for certain installations, such as premises open to the public or larger communal installations. Our measurements do not replace it, nor the boletín. They help you prepare for an inspection, a purchase or a claim.
How often should the installation be tested?
In a home: when it is many years old, after a renovation, when buying or renting, after a heavy storm or if you notice shocks or RCD tripping. In businesses, as part of periodic maintenance and before the compulsory inspection. Having earlier measurements lets you see whether something is getting worse.

Electrical inspection
A home electrical safety inspection in Seville, Spain tells you, with measurements rather than guesswork, what state your home is in: earthing, cable insulation, RCDs, fuse board and cable sizes. You get a report with what is fine, what is worth improving and what is urgent. Ideal before buying, renting or renovating.
Earthing
Earthing (grounding in the US, toma de tierra in Spain) is what allows your RCD to protect you from an electric shock. In Seville, Spain we carry out earthing installation and testing in flats and houses: earth rods or buried conductor, main earth line, connection of every circuit and a resistance measurement to confirm it works.
OCA inspection
An OCA electrical inspection in Seville, Spain is compulsory for large residential buildings, garages, swimming pools and premises open to the public. We prepare the installation before the inspector arrives, attend the visit with them and put right the defects they point out, so you get a favourable certificate.
High-immunity RCD
We fit a high-immunity RCD in Seville, Spain when yours trips for no reason with LED lights, the induction hob, inverter air conditioning or the EV charger. First we check there is no real earth leakage, then we choose the right RCD (high-immunity, type A, F or B) so it protects just as well and stops tripping.
Old installation certificate
You need to renew the boletín in Spain when your installation is more than 20 years old and you want to increase the power, change the account holder or reconnect the electricity. In Seville we inspect the installation with test instruments, carry out the minimum upgrade the regulations require and issue a new certificate registered with the Junta de Andalucía.
Survey before buying
If you are looking for the EICR equivalent in Spain before buying a resale home in Seville, this is it: an electrical survey that tells you, before you sign, whether the installation is fine as it is or will need rewiring, and roughly what that would cost. We check the fuse board, earthing, RCDs and wiring with measurements and give you a report with an upgrade quote to negotiate the price or plan the renovation.
