Transformer substation maintenance and medium voltage in Seville, Spain (coordination)

Transformer substation maintenance in Seville, Spain, coordinated for you: if your company has its own substation, we coordinate its maintenance and statutory inspections with a company licensed for high voltage, which carries out the medium-voltage work. Pulso Eléctrico takes care of all the low voltage, from the main switchboard to the last machine, so you have a single point of contact.

Transformer substation maintenance in Seville: one point of contact for the whole installation

Companies with high power demand, such as warehouses with heavy machinery, industrial refrigeration, hotels or large stores, usually receive electricity at medium voltage and step it down in their own transformer substation (centro de transformación). That substation has maintenance and periodic inspection obligations, and on the other side of the transformer begins the low-voltage installation that runs the whole business.

We want to make this clear from the start: the medium-voltage work is carried out by a company licensed for high voltage. Pulso Eléctrico coordinates the maintenance, inspections and alterations of the substation with that company, and does all the low-voltage work. That way you have a single point of contact and nobody passes the buck when something fails.

Statutory inspections of the transformer substation

Royal Decree 337/2014 approves the Spanish high-voltage regulation, and its ITC-RAT-23 governs the checks and inspections of these installations, with inspections every 3 years carried out by the company licensed for high voltage. If it is a customer-owned substation, meaning it belongs to your company, complying with those inspections and with maintenance is your responsibility as the owner.

We help you keep track: we manage the calendar, coordinate the high-voltage company’s visit, prepare the low-voltage side so the shutdown is as short as possible and file the inspection reports.

The low voltage that hangs off the transformer

All the energy for your business comes out of the transformer, and that is where we work:

  • Main low-voltage switchboard, with the main protection and distribution, which we describe on industrial switchboards.
  • Lines to the sub-boards and to the machines.
  • Capacitor bank to compensate reactive energy, which in these installations is often penalised on the bill. We explain it on power factor correction.
  • Thermal imaging of the switchboards with the installation under load, as in our thermal imaging service.
  • Preventive and corrective maintenance, within an industrial maintenance plan.

When a transformer substation is needed

  • New warehouses and businesses whose power exceeds what the distributor can supply at low voltage at that point.
  • Industrial estates that supply plots at medium voltage.
  • Large power increases in companies that already have a substation and have outgrown it.

Before planning a new substation or an upgrade, we review real consumption. Sometimes load management, reactive power compensation or solar for businesses covering daytime consumption reduces the power you need.

Companies with a transformer substation in Seville

Customer-owned substations are common in the large warehouses on the industrial estates around Seville, such as PISA in Mairena del Aljarafe, La Isla in Dos Hermanas, Fridex in Alcalá de Guadaíra, or Calonge, Store and Carretera Amarilla in the city itself, and in industries in La Rinconada and Utrera. If your warehouse is still being designed, we build this in from the start as part of the warehouse electrical installation.

How we work

  1. Visit to the transformer substation and the low-voltage installation.
  2. Document review: ownership, latest inspections and reports.
  3. Coordinated proposal: what the company licensed for high voltage does and what we do.
  4. Calendar of inspections and shutdowns, adjusted to your activity.
  5. Low-voltage work carried out by us and coordination of the medium-voltage work.
  6. Filing of inspection reports and a report on each intervention.

Frequently asked questions

Does Pulso Eléctrico work on high voltage?

No, we do not carry out the high-voltage part. Work in the transformer substation and on medium voltage is done by a company licensed for it under the Spanish high-voltage regulation. We coordinate the inspections and alterations with that company and do all the low-voltage work in your installation, so you have a single point of contact.

How often must a transformer substation be inspected?

Royal Decree 337/2014, which approves the high-voltage regulation, and its ITC-RAT-23 set periodic checks and inspections, with inspections every 3 years by the company licensed for high voltage. Preventive maintenance of the whole substation is also advisable so it does not fail between inspections.

Who is responsible for the substation at my warehouse?

If it is a customer-owned substation (centro de abonado), meaning it belongs to your company, you as the owner are responsible for its maintenance and inspections. If it belongs to the distributor, maintenance is theirs. We go through the documents with you to establish which case applies and what your obligations are.

Do I need a transformer substation for my warehouse?

Only if the power you need is more than the distributor can supply at low voltage at that point, or if the estate is supplied at medium voltage. Before considering it we review your real consumption: sometimes good load management or reactive power compensation avoids a costly upgrade.

What exactly do you do on the low-voltage side?

Everything from the transformer output onwards: main low-voltage switchboard, lines to the sub-boards, protection devices, capacitor bank, lighting, power sockets, earthing of the indoor installation and machinery connection, plus thermal imaging and maintenance of those switchboards.

Our company has just bought a site near Seville with its own substation. Where do we start?

With the documents: who owns the substation, when it was last inspected and the inspection reports. We visit the substation and the low-voltage installation, check the paperwork with you and propose a coordinated plan, setting out what the licensed high-voltage company will do and what we will do, with a calendar adjusted to your activity.

Related services

Industrial warehouses

We carry out the warehouse electrical installation in Seville, Spain and on its industrial estates: supply connection, switchboards, cable trays and conduits, power sockets, lighting, earthing and power for cold rooms, with project and legalisation. When the warehouse needs a transformer substation, we coordinate it.

Industrial switchboards

We design, assemble and wire industrial switchboards in Seville, Spain: main low-voltage switchboards, distribution sub-boards and control panels for machines, pumps and processes, with diagrams, labelling and compliance with UNE-EN 61439. We also extend and replace old switchboards in warehouses and factories.

Industrial maintenance

Industrial electrical maintenance for businesses in Seville, Spain: scheduled inspection plans for switchboards, motors, lines, lighting, UPS units and generators, thermal imaging to get ahead of breakdowns and call-outs for the ones that still happen, in warehouses, shops, offices and residential buildings with industrial-type installations.

Capacitors and reactive energy

We install power factor correction in Seville, Spain with a capacitor bank, so you stop paying the reactive energy surcharge that appears on the bills of many warehouses, workshops, hotels and shops. We measure with a power quality analyser, size the bank in kVAr and leave it adjusted so the penalty disappears.

Solar for businesses

We install commercial solar panels in Seville, Spain: self-consumption systems of 15 to 100 kW or more on warehouse roofs, solar carports in car parks and solar pumping on farms, with an engineering project, legalisation under Royal Decree 244/2019 and a study that matches your consumption curve against real production.

Thermal imaging

Thermal imaging of an electrical panel in Seville, Spain uses an infrared camera to find hot spots on terminals, connections and protective devices before they fail or start a fire. We inspect the panels of apartment buildings, shops, warehouses and homes while the installation is running under load, and hand you a report with the images, the temperatures and what needs correcting.
