BEV (battery electric vehicle, vehículo eléctrico de batería)
Battery Electric Vehicle: a fully electric vehicle that runs only on the energy in its battery, recharged by plugging into the grid. It has no combustion engine, no exhaust emissions and carries the DGT 0 label.
What a BEV is
A BEV, Battery Electric Vehicle, is a pure electric car. It runs only on one or more electric motors powered by a battery, and the battery is charged by plugging the car in. There is no fuel tank and no exhaust, and it carries the 0 environmental label of the DGT, the Spanish traffic authority.
BEV, PHEV and others
- BEV: 100 % electric, always charged from the grid.
- PHEV: plug-in hybrid, with a combustion engine and a smaller battery.
- Conventional hybrid: not plugged in; the battery is charged by the engine and braking.
In Spanish statistics, BEV and PHEV together are called electrificados (electrified vehicles).
