FAQ

How much do solar panels cost for a house in Spain?

Solar panels for a house in Spain cost roughly 5,500 to 7,000 euros for a 5 kW self-consumption system, installed and legalised, which works out at about 850 to 1,300 euros per kWp. Adding a battery, a 6 kWp system with 5 kWh of storage rises to 10,000 to 14,000 euros.

Solar panels cost in Spain in 2026

SystemGuide price
5 kW self-consumption, installed and legalised5,500 to 7,000 €
Price per installed kWp850 to 1,300 €
6 kWp with a 5 kWh battery10,000 to 14,000 €

The kWp (kilowatt peak) is the maximum power the panels deliver under reference conditions. It is the unit used to size and compare systems.

What the price includes

  • Photovoltaic panels and mounting structure.
  • Inverter, which converts the panels’ direct current into alternating current for the house.
  • DC and AC protective devices, including surge protection.
  • Legalisation under RD 244/2019 on self-consumption (autoconsumo) and ITC-BT-40, with its boletín (electrical certificate).
  • Registration for surplus compensation (compensación de excedentes), so the energy you export to the grid is credited on your bill.

What the price depends on

  • The power you need for your consumption.
  • The roof: orientation, pitch, type of roof and ease of access.
  • The distance between panels, inverter and fuse board.
  • A battery, if you want one.

How much you save and the payback period

The average saving of a residential system in 2025 was about 189 euros per installed kW per year. For 5 kW, about 945 euros a year. With a cost of 5,500 to 7,000 euros, the simple payback works out at about 6 to 7.5 years, although it depends heavily on how much you use during the day. In Seville, with about 3,000 hours of sunshine a year, each kWp produces roughly 1,600 to 1,750 kWh a year.

Solar panels and an electric car

If you have or will have an electric car, a charger that uses solar surplus lets you charge from the sun during the day. About 2 extra kWp covers almost all of 15,000 km a year.

Tax deductions

Royal Decree-law 7/2026 extended the Spanish income tax (IRPF) deductions for energy efficiency work in homes (20 %, 40 % and 60 %). Whether they apply depends on each case, so check with your tax adviser before counting on them.

Battery or not?

A battery makes the system considerably more expensive. It pays off mainly when you use a lot of electricity at night and your surplus is paid at a low price.
