FAQ

How much does it cost to charge an electric car at home in Spain?

Charging an electric car at home in Spain costs roughly 1.8 to 3.3 euros per 100 kilometres: about 1.8 euros off-peak at 0.10 euros per kWh and about 3.3 euros at the average PVPC regulated price. The same 100 kilometres cost 9 to 11 euros in petrol (gas) and 7 to 11 euros at a public rapid charger.

Cost to charge an electric car at home: the calculation

To work out how much it costs to charge an electric car at home you need three figures: what your car uses, what you lose while charging and what you pay per kWh.

  1. Consumption: an average EV uses 16 to 18 kWh per 100 km.
  2. Charging losses: add roughly 10 %.
  3. Price per kWh: off-peak (valle), 0.08 to 0.15 euros depending on the tariff; the average PVPC (the regulated hourly tariff) in September 2026 was 0.183 euros.

Formula: kWh per 100 km × 1.10 × price per kWh = cost per 100 km.

What it adds to your monthly bill

For 15,000 km a year, the car uses 2,400 to 2,550 kWh a year, about 200 to 210 kWh a month. That means 20 to 30 euros more a month on a tariff with cheap off-peak hours, and 50 to 60 euros on a normal flat-rate tariff. Compared with a petrol car, the energy saving is around 1,000 euros a year.

How to pay less

  • Charge off-peak. On the 2.0TD tariff, the off-peak period runs from 0:00 to 8:00 and all weekend. Schedule charging from the charger app or the car.
  • Choose a tariff with cheap off-peak hours or a dedicated EV tariff.
  • Adjust your power. Raising only the off-peak contracted power is cheaper than raising it all.
  • Charge with the sun. Seville has about 3,000 hours of sunshine a year and each kWp of panels produces roughly 1,600 to 1,750 kWh. About 2 extra kWp covers almost all of 15,000 km if you charge during the day with a charger that uses solar surplus.

An example

If you drive 40 km a day in a car that uses 17 kWh per 100 km, you need about 6.8 kWh, or about 7.5 kWh with losses. Off-peak at 0.10 euros, that is about 0.75 euros a day, or about 22 euros a month.

When to call an electrician

When you want to install the charger, schedule off-peak charging or combine it with solar panels. In Seville, Spain we do it through home EV charger for houses, and the solar side through solar panels. More answers in our FAQ.
