PVPC (precio voluntario para el pequeño consumidor)

Spain's regulated electricity tariff for supplies up to 10 kW, in which the energy price changes every hour with the wholesale market. Only reference suppliers offer it and it is the only tariff that gives access to the bono social discount.

What the PVPC is

The PVPC, or voluntary price for small consumers, is the regulated electricity tariff. Its price is not set by a company but by a government formula based on the wholesale electricity market. Supplies up to 10 kW can sign up, and only through a reference supplier (comercializadora de referencia). It is also the only tariff that lets you apply for the bono social.

How the price is calculated

The energy price changes every hour of the day. The tolls and charges of the 2.0TD tariff are added to the market cost, which is why off-peak hours usually come out cheaper. Red Eléctrica publishes the next day’s hourly prices every afternoon, so you can know tomorrow’s price today and plan the washing machine or car charging. As a reference, the average PVPC in September 2026 was 0.183 euros per kWh.

PVPC or free market

  • PVPC: variable price, no tie-in periods or added services. It pays off if you can shift use to cheap hours.
  • Free market: the supplier offers a fixed or indexed price for a period. More stable bills, but read the small print.

Neither option always wins: it depends on your consumption and the market. If you have solar panels, also compare how surplus is paid in each case.

When to call an electrician

An electrician does not change your tariff, but can measure your real consumption, adjust your contracted power and schedule the water heater, pool pump or charger to use the cheap hours. We help through solar and energy efficiency in Seville, Spain.
