Bono social (Spanish social electricity discount)
Discount on the electricity bill for vulnerable consumers who have the PVPC with a reference supplier at their main home. It is granted by income, large family status or minimum pension, and you apply to that supplier.
What the bono social is
The bono social eléctrico is a state-regulated discount on the electricity bill of households classed as vulnerable consumers. The supplier does not grant it at its own discretion: the law sets who qualifies, the percentage discount and the annual consumption limit it applies to. It exists only for the PVPC, the regulated tariff, so if you are on the free market you would have to move to a reference supplier to apply.
Requirements
- Be an individual and the holder of the electricity contract.
- Have the PVPC at your main home.
- Meet one of the vulnerability criteria: household income below the set thresholds (calculated on the IPREM index and the number of household members), being a large family (familia numerosa) or receiving the minimum pension, among others.
There are categories (vulnerable and severely vulnerable) with different discounts. The government updates the income thresholds and percentages, so check the official bono social website of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition before applying.
How to apply
Apply to the reference supplier you have the PVPC with, using its form, and attach the documents proving your situation: DNI or NIE of household members, family book or large family certificate and registration certificate (empadronamiento), as applicable.
What it has to do with an electrician
The bono social is handled with your supplier, not by an electrician. Where we come in is before: a new connection, a change of holder with boletín or adjusting your contracted power. See electrical installations in Seville, Spain.
