FAQ

Which electricity tariff is best with an electric car in Spain?

With an electric car, choose a tariff with a cheap off-peak (valle) period, because you will almost always charge at night: on the 2.0TD tariff, off-peak runs from 00:00 to 08:00 and all weekend. With off-peak at 0.08 to 0.15 euros per kWh, charging at home costs about 20 to 30 euros a month.

Best electricity tariff for an electric car: it is all about off-peak

It is the first thing almost everyone asks when they get an electric car, and the answer is the tariff that makes the hours when the car is parked at home cheaper, usually at night. A car doing 15,000 kilometres a year adds about 200 kWh a month to your bill, so the price of those hours makes the difference.

How the 2.0TD tariff works

Most Spanish homes are on the 2.0TD access tariff, with three energy periods:

  • Peak (punta): the most expensive hours of the working day.
  • Standard (llano): the hours in between.
  • Off-peak (valle): 00:00 to 08:00 and all weekend. The cheapest period.

It also lets you contract two different power levels: one for peak and standard (P1) and another for off-peak (P2). Many users raise only the off-peak power so they can charge at 7.4 kW at night without making the rest of the day more expensive.

The usual options

  1. A tariff with different prices per period on the free market. Worth it if off-peak is clearly cheaper than the rest.
  2. A specific electric vehicle tariff. Some suppliers offer a heavily discounted off-peak period or a bundle of kWh designed for charging.
  3. PVPC. The regulated price, which changes every hour with the market. Its average price in September 2026 was 0.183 euros per kWh.

What you might pay

  • Off-peak price per kWh in 2026: 0.08 to 0.15 euros depending on the tariff.
  • Monthly cost of home charging for 15,000 km a year: 20 to 30 euros on a tariff with off-peak, and 50 to 60 euros on an ordinary flat rate tariff.

Make the most of your tariff

  • Schedule charging from the charger or car app so it starts at 00:00.
  • Install dynamic load balancing to charge at the maximum power your contract allows without tripping the ICP (power limiting switch).
  • If you have solar panels, charge during the day with your surplus and use off-peak to top up.

When to call an electrician

Call when you install the charger: a smart unit with scheduling and load balancing is what lets you take advantage of the tariff. In Seville, Spain, we fit it through home EV charger installation for houses and help you adjust your contract with a contracted power and tariff review.
