PLC automation in Seville: processes that run on their own, safely

Automating means getting a machine or a process to do what it has to do, in the right order and with the necessary safety functions, without depending on someone watching every step. We carry out industrial and PLC automation in Seville, Spain for warehouses, workshops, storage facilities, pumping systems and farms: from simple relay control to a panel with a PLC, touch screen and remote communication.

What an automation project includes

  • Process analysis: what the machine has to do, in which sequence and what must never happen.
  • Choice of PLC and of the input, output and communication modules.
  • Sensors and actuators: limit switches, detectors, level, pressure or temperature probes, solenoid valves and motors.
  • HMI screen so the operator can see the status, change set points and acknowledge alarms.
  • Automation panel with power supply, PLC, relays, protection devices and clearly labelled terminals.
  • Programming and testing with the machine, first with no load and then in production.
  • Documents: diagrams, signal list and a copy of the program.

Typical applications

  1. Production machines with start, stop and safety sequences.
  2. Conveyors in warehouses, with jam detection and linked stops.
  3. Pumps and tanks: pump alternation, levels, dry-run protection and alarms.
  4. Ventilation and extraction controlled by temperature, timetable or air quality.
  5. Irrigation programmed by sector on farms and large gardens.
  6. Industrial doors, barriers and access points with their safety devices.

From relay logic to a PLC

Many warehouses in Seville have machines with relay and timer control installed years ago. They work, but every fault means hunting through cables and every change means rewiring. Moving to a PLC lets you:

  • Diagnose faster, because the program and the screen tell you which input or output has failed.
  • Change the way the machine works by editing the program, with no building work.
  • Add alarms, counters and logs of hours or production.
  • Keep everything documented, so any technician can maintain it.

If the machine has large motors, we combine it with motors and variable speed drives, and if the power side has to be rebuilt, with new industrial switchboards.

Regulations and safety

  • UNE-EN 60204-1: safety of the electrical equipment of machines, with emergency stops, control circuits and documents.
  • Machinery Directive: essential safety requirements for the complete machine.

Safety comes before convenience: emergency stops and guards must act even if the program fails, and remote access can never override the local safety devices.

Automation in warehouses and farms around Seville

We work on the industrial estates of the metropolitan area, such as PISA in Mairena del Aljarafe, La Isla in Dos Hermanas, Fridex in Alcalá de Guadaíra, Calonge or Store, and on farms in La Rinconada or Utrera, where automating pumping and irrigation saves hours in the field. For pumping and irrigation, see also agricultural installations.

How we work

  1. Meeting or visit to understand the process and what you want to improve.
  2. Technical proposal with PLC, signals, screen and panel.
  3. Fixed quote and lead time.
  4. Panel assembly and wiring on the machine.
  5. Programming, testing and fine-tuning with your staff.
  6. Basic training for the operator and handover of documents.
  7. Ongoing support, included in industrial maintenance if you take out a contract.

Frequently asked questions

What is a PLC (programmable logic controller)?

It is a small industrial computer that reads signals from sensors, push buttons and probes and, according to the program inside it, switches motors, valves, alarms or lights. It replaces relay and timer logic, takes up less space, is changed by editing the program and lets you see the state of the machine on a screen.

Is it worth replacing relay control with a PLC?

It usually is when the relay logic fails often, when every change means rewiring, or when nobody has the diagrams any more. With a PLC, the way the machine works is documented in the program, alarms and logs can be added and future changes are much quicker. We assess it according to the condition and importance of the equipment.

Which standard does the electrical equipment of an automated machine meet?

UNE-EN 60204-1, on the safety of the electrical equipment of machines: emergency stops, control circuits, operator protection and documents. The machine as a whole must also comply with the EU Machinery Directive. We design the panel and the program with those requirements.

Can I monitor and control the machine from my phone?

In many cases, yes, by adding communications to the PLC or the screen. You can then receive alarms, check status or change set points remotely. We plan it carefully: remote access to a machine must be secured and must never override the local safety devices.

Our parent company abroad uses a particular PLC brand. Can you work with it?

Tell us the brand, the model and what the process has to do, and we will assess the project. We build the panel and the wiring to UNE-EN 60204-1 and the Spanish Low Voltage Regulation (REBT), and hand over diagrams, the signal list and a copy of the program so your own engineers can maintain it.

How much does it cost to automate a machine or a process?

It is quoted by project, because it depends on the number of signals, the PLC and screen, the programming and the panel to be built. To give you a fixed price we need to understand the process: what the machine has to do, in what order and with which safety functions.
