Glossary
Registered electrical installer (instalador habilitado or autorizado)
A low voltage installation company entered in the Integrated Industrial Register, in Andalusia with the Junta, entitled to carry out, alter and certify electrical installations with the boletín. In US terms, a licensed electrical contractor.
What a registered installer is
People say “authorised installer” (instalador autorizado), but today the correct term is registered installation company (empresa instaladora habilitada). Since Royal Decree 560/2010 the individual electrician’s card no longer exists: registration belongs to the company, which declares it has qualified staff, technical resources and civil liability insurance. It is entered in the Integrated Industrial Register, and in Andalusia the process is done with the Junta.
Basic or specialist category
- Basic (IBTB): homes, shops and most installations, including almost all wallboxes.
- Specialist (IBTE): also special installations, such as public premises, pools, installations needing a project or rooms with special characteristics.
What it can do
Only a registered company can carry out new installations or alterations, issue the boletín and write the technical design report. It is also required to install an EV charger and for you to claim the IRPF deduction for it. A UK, Irish or German electrician cannot sign a Spanish boletín.
Not the same as the distributor
Registration is granted by the authorities, not the electricity company. An electrician saying they work “for” a distributor does not make them registered.
How to check
Ask for the company’s registration number and look it up in the Junta de Andalucía industrial register or the Integrated Industrial Register. Ask for the quote and invoice in the registered company’s name and for the filed boletín at the end. Learn more about us in Seville, Spain.
