FAQ
What is needed to complete an air conditioning pre-installation in a new build in Spain?
To complete the air conditioning pre-installation in a new flat you normally still need the unit itself: indoor and outdoor units, their connection to the pipes and to the power supply, the grilles if it is ducted and the thermostat. First check that the air conditioning circuit reaches the unit and has its own breaker in the fuse board.
What is needed to complete the air conditioning pre-installation
Many new homes in Seville, Spain are handed over with a ducted air conditioning pre-installation (preinstalación) and, in some developments, with the unit included. If you only have the pre-installation, several pieces still have to be added, and part of the work is electrical.
What a pre-installation usually includes
- Ducts in the false ceiling running to the rooms.
- Openings for the grilles, or the grilles themselves.
- Pipework and drainage to the planned position of the units.
- With high electrification, the air conditioning circuit (C9) allowed for in the fuse board.
Every development is different: check the specifications (memoria de calidades) for yours.
What is missing
- The indoor unit (the ducted machine) and the outdoor unit.
- The refrigerant connection between them and commissioning, done by an air conditioning installer.
- The power supply to the units from their circuit, with its protection.
- The thermostat, or a zoned control system.
- The supply and return grilles, if they were not included.
The electrical part
- Check that the air conditioning circuit reaches the unit’s position and has its own breaker in the fuse board.
- Check whether your contracted power (potencia contratada) can take the air conditioning running at the same time as the hob and oven.
- If you add split units in bedrooms outside the pre-installation, each one needs its own socket or line.
- A smart thermostat lets you switch it on from your phone and programme it by zone.
