Maximum admissible power (potencia máxima admisible)
The highest power an installation can carry, set by the size of its individual riser cable and the rating of its main switch. It is stated on the boletín and marks how far you can raise your contracted power without work or a new certificate.
What potencia máxima admisible is
Potencia máxima admisible (maximum admissible power) is the ceiling of your installation: the power its cables and protective devices can carry without overheating. It depends mainly on the size of the individual riser cable (derivación individual), the line from the meter to your consumer unit, and on the rating of the main switch (IGA).
Where to find it
It is stated on the boletín, the installation certificate issued by the installer. If you do not have it to hand, the rating of the main switch gives a clue on a 230 V single-phase supply:
- 25 A: about 5,750 W.
- 32 A: about 7,360 W.
- 40 A: about 9,200 W.
This is only a reference: what counts is what the riser cable can carry, and only an electrician can check that.
What it is for
If you want more contracted power and the new figure does not exceed the maximum admissible power on a boletín under 20 years old, you can normally just ask your supplier (comercializadora). If it does, or the boletín is older, the distributor will ask for a new certificate.
If it falls short
Raising it means upgrading the installation: a new main switch and sometimes a new riser cable or consumer unit. A new boletín is then issued and registered with the regional industry office. First, check whether you really need more power or whether spreading your usage or a load balancer for the EV charger would do.

Increase contracted power
You need to increase your electricity power in Spain when the smart meter cuts everything off as soon as the air conditioning, the oven and the washing machine run together. We check what power your installation can take, upgrade the supply cable, main switch and fuse board if needed, and issue the boletín so the distributor approves the increase.
Electrical certificate (boletín)
The electrical certificate in Spain, known by everyone as the boletín and officially the CIE (certificado de instalación eléctrica), is the document a registered installer company signs to confirm that your installation meets the regulations. You need it to connect the electricity, increase your power or change the account holder with an old installation. We inspect, certify and register it with the Junta de Andalucía in Seville.
